Policies

Hastings Basketball Board (HBB) follows the policies established by the Minnesota Youth Athletic Services (MYAS), including, but not limited to:

  • Code of Conduct Policy
  • Communication Policy
  • Disciplinary Policy
  • Coach Responsibilities/Expectations
  • Non-Discrimination Clause
  • Refusal Policy
  • Privacy Policy

All players and parents/guardians are required to acknowledge and agree to these policies during the registration process.

  • The Hastings Basketball Board reserves the authority, by quorum vote, to discipline, suspend, or terminate the membership of any participant whose conduct is determined to be detrimental to the best interests of the association. Before any disciplinary action is taken, the individual involved will be notified of the Board meeting, informed of the concerns or allegations, and provided an opportunity to respond.

  • When disciplinary action involves a player, the Board will notify the player's parent or guardian and the player's head coach of any suspension or revocation of the player's eligibility to participate in future Hastings Basketball activities.

Refund Policy

  • A 100% refund will be issued for registration cancellations made before team formation. Team formation typically occurs 1-2 weeks after player assessments.

  • No refunds will be issued after teams have been formed.

  • Requests for refunds due to extenuating circumstances may be considered on a case-by-case basis. Any exception to this policy requires approval by a quorum vote of the Hastings Basketball Board.

Conflict Resolution Process

To promote respectful communication and positive relationships, Hastings Basketball asks that the following process be followed when addressing concerns that arise before, during, or after the season:

  • Allow a 24-hour cooling-off period: If a concern or conflict arises involving a coach, player, or parent, please wait at least 24 hours before initiating a discussion.

  • Speak with the head coach first: Parents and players should discuss the concern directly with the head coach, regardless of whether the issue involves the coach, a player, or another parent.

  • Contact the appropriate Program Director: If the concern is not resolved after speaking with the head coach, it should be brought to the appropriate Program Director for further review.

  • Escalate to the Hastings Basketball Board (HBB): If the issue remains unresolved, it may be submitted to the HBB for consideration.

  • Board review and decision: The HBB will review the matter, gather any necessary information, and determine an appropriate resolution. The Board's decision will be considered final.

APPEAL PROCESS

Hastings Basketball is committed to providing all members of the association with a fair and consistent appeal process.

  • Appeals must be submitted to the Hastings Basketball Board in writing.

  • Upon receipt of the appeal, the Board will review the matter and schedule a formal meeting with the individual(s) involved, as appropriate.

  • Following its review, the Board will reach a decision by a quorum vote. The Board's decision will be considered final.
